Very exuberantly hand colored Pennsylvania German fraktur marking, I think, the birth of a child.  

It is in German, but from a family in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  The birth date is March 20th 1843.  There is a later date of 1844 on it as well, which was probably the baptismal date (Sorry - I don't read German).

What I love about this fraktur is the very wonderful hand coloring on a pre-printed base.  The artist has also embellished this with plumes over the birds' heads and lots of bright colors.

The fraktur is 12 1/2" x 15 1/4".  Overall size is 16 1/2" x 19 1/4".  Framed in a simple mitered frame with a hanging ring.

The condition is very good with one old rip at the bottom which was repaired many years ago.

This was found in New Hampshire, but it is from Lancaster, PA.
